A majlis is a working room, not a showpiece.
Majlis interior design goes wrong when the room is styled rather than planned. Seating is bought as loose furniture and floats away from the walls; twenty guests arrive and half of them face each other across eight metres of marble; the room echoes so badly that conversation is tiring; there is nowhere to serve from without crossing the whole space; and the guest WC is reached through the family living room. Within two years the upholstery has collapsed at the arms and the fabric has faded on the window side.
We plan the majlis around hosting. Perimeter seating is set at conversational distances with clear sight lines to the entrance, a discreet service route reaches the serving area without crossing the room, and the guest WC opens off the guest circuit alone. Acoustics are managed with panelled walls, heavy drapery and rug specification so the room stays calm at capacity. Seating bases and side tables are built in our own workshop to your dimensions, upholstered in commercial-grade fabric with UV resistance on window elevations, and rebuilt or re-covered under warranty if anything fails.

Materials and finishes we work with
- Fluted oak & walnut panelling
- Gypsum coves with concealed LED
- Hand-knotted wool rugs
- Contract-grade UV-stable velvet
- Linen blend upholstery
- Brushed brass inlays
- Marble coffee-table tops
- Blackout & sheer drapery
- Acoustic backing boards
- Arabic mashrabiya screens
Majlis upholstery is specified to commercial rub ratings, not domestic, because these rooms are used hard during Ramadan and Eid. Window-facing fabrics are UV-tested, and all foam is high-resilience so arms and seat fronts hold their shape.

“We host thirty people through Ramadan and the room finally works. Serving happens behind the seating, the acoustics are calm, and the upholstery still looks new after a year.”
Majlis Interior Design questions, answered.
Perimeter seating gives roughly one guest per metre of wall run. A 6 by 8 metre majlis comfortably seats twenty-four with a clear central circulation space.
Yes. Bases, side tables and panelling are made in our own workshop, which is why dimensions can be tailored to the room rather than compromised to a catalogue size.
Frequently. We plan two rooms with independent entrances, separate guest WCs and a shared service core so catering serves both without crossing.
Acoustic backing behind wall panelling, a heavy rug over hard flooring, and lined drapery on the glazed elevation. Together they typically bring reverberation down to a comfortable conversational level.
Contract-grade velvet and linen blends rated above forty thousand Martindale rubs, with UV stabilisation on any elevation that receives direct sun.
Six to nine weeks in total: one to two weeks of design, four to six weeks of workshop manufacture, and one to two weeks of installation and styling.
Yes, where the frames are sound. We strip, replace foam and webbing, and re-cover in your chosen fabric at a fraction of the cost of new seating.
